Secondhand and childhood bed frames are making a serious comeback here at Zeh’s Custom Design, we’ve restored or refinished 4 in the last few months.
The first was the antiquing we did, along with the desk, for the client’s daughter.
The second was a turned head and footboard with siderails. It came to us from the client’s grandmother and she wanted to let her family enjoy it, but it was in pretty rough shape and a very dark finish. At our customer’s request, we stripped it to bare wood, sanded it, used shellac to keep any paint from being absorbed by the wood, in case the customer wanted them natural wood again at some point, then applied 2 coats of a pretty mossy green high gloss enamel.
The third and fourth were these twin-sized matching bed frames. As the pictures show, these came to us with at least 5 different paint colors over an original mahogany shade of paint. We sttripped and sanded them down to bare wood, and then used 2 coats of Mahogany Stain and 2 coats of a satin Polycrylic. They were finished and delivered just in time for the client to set them up for her in-laws’ visit over Memorial Day weekend.
