One of the biggest joys of being a woodworker is bringing an antique or unloved piece back to its proper glory and beauty. Many of these pieces come from our clients, but others are those we get to truly rescue.
This 14″ round side table is a prime example. We rescued this at a yard sale, for free. The previous owner simply didn’t have the desire or the ability to repair and refinish it, and no longer wanted it taking up space in their garage or basement. We were excited to see what we could do with it, and brought it home. There was quite a bit of damage to the tabletop including a bad crack we repaired, some damage to the detail work along the edge, which we were able to replicate, and a very wobbly base. Once it had been repaired and sanded, we used a Java stain and satin Polycrylic to finish it.
As you can see – it turned out quite beautifully, and has since gone on to grace our own living room.
