I’m noticing a theme of our customer’s having pieces with a ton of sentimental value needing our services, especially as this post is simply that – a customer approached us about having her kitchen table repaired – it was wobbly and sloping. Upon first appearance, this table didn’t seem as though a repair was the best choice, but this ended up being a special project for us.
Our customer had been gifted this table, and it was made by her husband and father. It was the last project her father completed. As soon as we heard her story, we knew we needed, more than ever, to make this table last a good long while.
Thankfully, the tabletop itself was in good repair, and the wobbly legs were simply due to an under-engineered leg structure coupled with being moved several times. Our customer wanted something more modern, but still in keeping with the lines of the table.
We created this new trestle of red oak, with a softly sloped curve on the feet, through mortise and tenon joint, and traditional wedges to lock the cross-piece in place. Deceptively simply in design, this will keep the table from wobbling or racking.
We used a Pickled Oak stain and Polyurethane finish to match the rest of her kitchen and resist scratching and dents from daily use.
The tears of joy in her eyes upon delivery were an extra bonus on this job.
