As we expand our horizons, we’re often presented with situations where we get to do work on-site for our clients. One such situation came up when we were asked by a property owner to repair a bay window seat damaged by the elements. Over the course of time, sun and water caused the finish to wear, and the wood was damaged.
We went on-site, and carefully masked the area off to protect the tenant from the dust and mess we would be creating.
A sanding through the grits from 80 on up to 320 insured that any old finish left behind was fully removed, and that the wood was ready for new stain and finish coats.
A good coat of natural stain was followed with 3 coats of Spar Varnish to provide added protection from the UV rays coming in through the window. In between the coats of Spar Varnish, a light sanding with 320 knocked down any irregularities caused by tiny air bubbles and things attracted to the wet finish as it dried.
Once the third coat of Spar Varnish went on, we did a wax and buff to insure a smooth and flawless finish.
We were able to work in the client’s space and leave it clean and as if we were never there, and they were thrilled.
