Zeh’s Custom Design was recently contacted by a large clothing company wishing to makeover their reception desk.
We started out with an inspiration photo, and picking up the desk from their corporate warehouse. In order to bring their white furniture into the 21st Century of a modern rustic look, in keeping with their European Alpine feel, we used an Eastern White Pine. We took their L-shaped unit, reconfigured it to a 9′ long unit, and made it structurally sound.
We milled up the Pine and glued up panels for the top, sides, and front of the desk. After sanding sanding the wood to 220, and insuring a perfectly smooth desktop surface, we applied General Finishes American Walnut oil-based stain to all the surfaces, followed by a Semi-Gloss Polyurethane. We used 4 coats on the front and sides to provide good protection from any of their clients and customers inadvertently hitting against the surfaces with anything, and 8 coats on the desktop surface to allow for a protected and smooth surface for writing up and packaging orders.
Casters on the bottom allow for ease of movement in the event that the client wishes to redecorate or rearrange the reception area.
On display front and center, this updated desk is a showpiece that will function for many years.
